Celebration of Prof Shiratori's 60th Birthday
and 33rd Anniversary of IPSJ
on January 23

In the evening of January 23, 1998, a meeting to celebrate Professor Rei Shiratori's 60th birthday and 33rd anniversary of the Institute for Political Studies in Japan (IPSJ) was held in the hall at the top of National Press Center Building. The meeting was divided into two parts: symposium on "Japanese Politics 1998" and celebration party.
    More than 230 statesmen, journalists and academics attended the meeting. They included  Mr. Toshiki Kaifu (former prime minister), Mr. Tsutomu Hata (former prime minister), Mr. Yukio Hatoyama (secretary general of Democratic Party), Mr. Kunio Anzai (president of Tokyo Gas Company), Ambassador Hiroaki Fujii (president of Japan Foundation) as well as Professor Shiratori's pupils and disciples.
    Professor Shiratori was given a scarlet muffler by his children, Hiroshi and Yuki.
